The world renowned Quatuor Bozzini will present the world premiere of my String Quartet no. 1, l’appel du vide at The Lab at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
World-renowned Montreal-based Quatour Bozzini have been Visiting Ensemble in the RBC composition department since 2020. Tonight we welcome them back as part of their latest European tour, as they present six brand new works by RBC composition students Phoenix Archbold, Chris Cresswell, Elliot Facey, Lantian Gu, Kat Hunt, and James McIlwrath.
I will be presenting my ongoing teaching artist project, One Mic Project, at the virtual ARTs + Change Conference at the University of Rochester. The presentation is entitled, A Breath of Fresh Air: A Philosophical and Practical Approach to Making Music in Correctional Facilities and Other Unusual Spaces
This gathering hosted by the University of Rochester Institute for the Performing Arts, in partnership with the University of Rochester Office of Equity and Inclusion, The Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center, Create A Space Now and Rochester Fringe Festival, will provide opportunities for artists of all disciplines, educators, community members, and community organizations to come together to create, share work and ideas, present research, and propose collaborations.
Andy Kozar will bring Convenient bits of Unupholstered Furniture to UMass Amherst on February 17th.
My 2019 work, Sonic Abstractions, based on the art work of CNY artist, Shawn Gilmore, will be performed alongside works by Ryan Chase, Anna S. Þorvaldsdóttir, and more. I will be playing electric guitar on my piece and Anna’s piece.

Jacob Swanson will perform and it worked, my recent piece for alto saxophone, live processing, and multimedia as part of a solo recital at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Buffalo, NY.

Hailed as a “soloist with impeccable taste,” and praised by audiences and composers for his "gorgeous, lyrical tone, spectacular technique, and heartfelt musicality ..." for presenting "the soprano saxophone at the height of its beauty," Jacob Swanson has performed throughout North America and Europe on concert series, television, and radio.
Since 2011, Swanson has performed regularly as member of the Decho Ensemble which he co-founded with Sarah Marchitelli. Decho Voce, a partnered ensemble dedicated to exploring repertoire for voice and saxophone, was established in 2019 with Dr. Katherine Petersen (soprano). Decho’s repertoire includes established works for saxophone, transcriptions, and new works written expressly for their ensembles. Decho has participated in residencies at Mercyhurst University, Idaho University Moscow, and with the NyMusikks Komponistgruppe in Oslo, Norway. They have presented at the PULS festival, Women Composers Festival of Hartford, United States Navy International Saxophone Symposium, Ethos New Music Festival, Cleveland Uncommon Sound Project, and North American Saxophone Alliance.
Swanson's debut album, Invisible Cities (2016), featured works for soprano saxophone and piano (James Welch) and was met with critical acclaim for "remind[ing] us what a beautiful instrument the soprano saxophone is ... [performing with] handsome tone, flawless technique, and great musical sensibilities."-ClevelandClassical His second album, wired. (2017), featured music for soprano saxophone and electronic medium - nearly all composer/performer collaborations. Swanson has additionally recorded with Andrew Cote as part of his debut album, Ulterior Motives (2016) and with Decho Ensemble on their self-titled debut album(2023).
The Decho Ensemble will perform and it worked and Too Late in the Evening at the University of Illinois, Chicago alongside the world premiere of Marc Mellits’s Dreamscapes (Peisaje de Vise).
Students and faculty at Onondaga Community College will perform In C, alongside other works.

Ben Ellis will perform the second movement of in search of distant, guiding suns at the SCI Regional Conference, I-II at the University of Maine (Orono). Exact date TBA.
I will be giving a lecture on John Oswald’s "Plunderphonics, or Audio Piracy as Compositional Prerogative”, looking at its legacy 40 years later and reflect on Plunderphonics in a world of sampling, remix, and meme culture.
SPLICE Festival will include five concerts, along with presentations and hands-on workshop sessions. Concerts will feature performances selected from submitted works and a curated concert by the SPLICE Ensemble. Presentations and workshops will serve Western Michigan students and festival attendees.

Floris Van der Veken is a Belgian saxophonist and performance artist currently residing in Rochester, NY. His performances are characterized by a strong emphasis on contemporary repertoire and interdisciplinary collaboration.
At the moment he pursues the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music with Dr. Chien-Kwan Lin. He received his Master’s degree as well as a postgraduate specialization degree in performance, both with highest distinction, at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, Belgium, studying under Hans de Jong. During an exchange year he studied under Rodrigo Vila at the Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears in Mallorca, Spain.
Floris specializes in contemporary and experimental repertoire, often working together with composers to highlight new works. He participated in many masterclasses with renowned saxophonists such as Timothy McAllister, Arno Bornkamp, Ryo Noda, Lars Mlekusch, Vincent David, Joonatan Rautiola, Jérôme Laran, and Nicholas Prost.

I’ve been writing songs for over 20 years. On October 4th, I’ll be performing from my every expanding songbook along with some fun reimagined covers of my favorite songs by others.
The Byrne:Kozar:Duo will perform all that’s left is dirt and sky at the Hopkinton Arts Center in Hopkinton, MA.
Created by New York City and Boston-based soprano Corrine Byrne and trumpeter Andy Kozar, the Byrne:Kozar:Duo presents historically informed performances of Baroque music for natural trumpet and soprano and commissions new works for modern trumpet and soprano. They have been said to create 'an arresting symbiosis in their melding of voice and trumpet timbres' (Textura) and that the 'trumpet and voice seem to take on one another's qualities' (Bandcamp Daily).
Benjamin Ellis will bring my work, in search of distant guiding suns to the Skaneateles Library as part of their concert series hosted by the Skaneateles Library and the Great Lakes Guitar Society.

Rochester based saxophonist, Floris Van der Veken, and I will travel to Oklahoma for the North American Saxophone Alliance to present my new work Means both sanctioned and forbidden for baritone saxophone and electronics.
The work uses sounds from the no input mixer to create an equally melodic and noisy soundscape.
