Program Notes:

Over the past few years, I’ve concentrated on writing works with direct, linear narratives. Written for solo clarinet and piano, Impressions subverts this model. Rather than following a linear development, Impressions is a collection of gestures that appear and disappear, creating a dialogue with itself. This work was composed during a time of travel: I started the work while living in New York City and continued working on it after moving to Decatur, MI for the summer. Ultimately this work was finished on September 7, 2014 while living in Georgetown, Guyana.
